Abstract: In a dynamic address tracking system, a token module creates a token for a job that accesses data in a storage system comprising a plurality of storage devices. The token comprises a job name. The job is a batch job. A storage module stores location information for the data accessed by the job in a token table. The location information is indexed by the token. In addition, the location information includes an input/output device name, an address space, a data set name, and a storage device name. A communication module receives a diagnostic command comprising the job name. The token module reconstructs the token using the job name. The storage module retrieves the location information indexed by the token in response to the diagnostic command.

Abstract: A method is disclosed to debug a computer program. The method provides a computer program comprising source code, and a listing of that source code. The method further provides a computing device comprising a data storage medium, and stores the computer program in that data storage medium. The method then runs the computer program, and subsequently 10 detects an error condition. The method creates and saves to the data storage medium a dump file comprising (N) save areas. Using information abstracted from the dump file and the source code listing, the method reproduces the source code execution at the time the error condition was detected.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automated fault-tolerant method for forming a physical backup copy of a source DASD volume. SOLUTION: Instant virtual copy, held back of a source volume identifies (ID) is executed, and a physical tape backup copy, to which the source volume ID are reintroduced, is formed from the instant virtual copy, so that a backup copy of a source data volume is formed. In Reaktion auf eine Defragmentierungsanforderung startet die Speichersteuerung eine Datenmigration aus einem Pool, um zusätzlichen freien Speicherplatz zu erzeugen. Im Anschluss an die Migration von Daten wird die Fragmentierung der Daten des Pools berechnet, und die Menge von vorhandenem freiem Speicherplatz des Pools wird ermittelt. Die Menge von vorhandenem freiem Speicherplatz wird mit einem Schwellenwert für freien Speicherplatz verglichen, wobei der Schwellenwert für freien Speicherplatz mit der berechneten Fragmentierung in Beziehung steht. Abstract: In a computer-implemented data storage system comprising at least one storage control and data storage, wherein data is stored in the form of volumes, at least a plurality of volumes having at least some freespace, and a grouping of a plurality of volumes comprises a pool. In response to a defragmentation request, the storage control initiates migration of data from a pool to generate additional freespace. Subsequent to the migration of data, fragmentation of data of the pool is computed, and the amount of existing freespace of the pool is determined. The amount of existing freespace is compared to a freespace threshold, where the freespace threshold is related to the computed fragmentation. If the comparison indicates the amount of freespace is below the threshold, spill volumes are added to the pool; and, else, the pool is kept intact without adding spill volumes. Then, defragmentation of the pool is initiated.
