Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate participation in a game in a multiuser environment by retrieving the list of usable games by capsuling access to a lobby server while using any specified object when scalably connecting a lot of users in the multiuser game. SOLUTION: A data processing system 8 has plural networks such as LAN 10 and 32 and through the LAN 10 and 32, plural individual computers 12 and 30 are connected. Besides, the data processing system 8 has a main frame computer 18 and this is connected to a storage device 20 operable as a remote storage mechanism for the LAN 10. Similarly, the LAN 10 is connected to a subsystem control unit/communication control unit 26 by a communication link 24 and can be connected through a communication link 34 to a gateway server 28. It is preferable that an IWS to be operated for linking the LAN 32 to the LAN 10 is used as the gateway server 28.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a delay of user connectivity by a seamless system by decreasing all destination addresses, handled by a server interconnected to individual clients, by the total number of peer addresses. SOLUTION: In hybrid environment 500, pure client servers and pure peer-to- peer options are integrated. In the hybrid environment 500, a client 502 transmits outgoing real-time data directly to a subset of destination peer clients, e.g. clients 504, 506, and 508. To transmit data to one of the remaining destinations, a server 510 is depended upon. This hybrid environment 500 gives each client a variety of communication options, so the client can dynamically select a proper balance of bandwidth and delay as to the outgoing data.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To authenticate a user, to limit a damaged password and to obtain service that is commercially executable by limiting the use of distributed service to a user through a password and a random factor which are given at the time of the first access. SOLUTION: A user 200 is authenticated to a lobby server 220 through a cookie 210 (password and an additional random factor). Next, the server 220 checks whether the cookie 210 includes an effective password. First, it decides whether the password is effective or not. When it is not effective, the password is rejected. When the password is effective, it is decided whether a user record 230 exists to the user or not. If it is no, the server 220 creates a user record to the password. In the case of yes, it is decided whether the cookie 210 that is given by the user 200 coincides with what is inside the record. In the case of yes, success is returned.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a file having such a format that it is made simple to reinspect data by allowing a user to select a key word class by selecting icon representation. SOLUTION: The graphical user interface(GUI) 60 of a visual resource file builder tool is described even in the programming language Java(R). The GUI 60 includes a tool bar 64, which includes icon representation with general functions such as 'OPEN NEW FILE' and 'CLOSE FILE' and icon representation of resource file key word elements corresponding to types of resource data that a developer possibly desires to include in a resource file. A standard text resource file normally contains data elements of the same or different types. A key word is used to define the types of the resource data and represent the different types of the data.
