Abstract: A device 100 for monitoring the activity of a computing device (C, fig. 4) connected to a network cable (N1) comprises interfaces 120, 130, 140 for connecting the device to the network cable, the computing device and to a power cable (P1). A first sensor 110 measures at least one of the network traffic to and from the computing device (C) and a second sensor 150 measures power consumption of the computing device. The device 100 may further comprise a wireless communications module (160, fig. 3) to wirelessly transmit data from at least one of the first sensor 110 and the second sensor 150 to an external device. The device 100 may further compare the network traffic to and from the computing device (C) and the power consumption of the computing device to a threshold to determine whether the computing device should be decommissioned. The computing device (C) may be a server in a data centre and the device 100 may comprise an adaptor.

Abstract: An embodiment of the invention provides a device for monitoring activity of a computing device connected to a network cable. The device includes a first interface for connecting the device to the network cable, a second interface for connecting the device to the computing device, and a third interface for connecting the device to a power cable. The device includes a first sensor for measuring network traffic to the computing device and/or network traffic from the computing device. The first sensor identifies an IP address accessing the computing device and/or a protocol used to access the computing device. The device further includes a second sensor for measuring power consumption of the computing device and a third sensor for identifying the computing device. A wireless communications module connected to the first sensor and/or the second sensor wirelessly transmits data from the first sensor and/or the second sensor to an external device.

Abstract: Eine Ausführungsform der Erfindung stellt eine Einheit zum Überwachen der Aktivität einer Datenverarbeitungseinheit bereit, die an ein Netzwerkkabel angeschlossen ist. Die Einheit enthält eine erste Schnittstelle zum Verbinden der Einheit mit dem Netzwerkkabel, eine zweite Schnittstelle zum Verbinden der Einheit mit der Datenverarbeitungseinheit und eine dritte Schnittstelle zum Verbinden der Einheit mit einem Netzstromkabel. Die Einheit enthält einen ersten Sensor zum Messen des Netzverkehrs zu der Datenverarbeitungseinheit und/oder des Netzwerkverkehrs von der Datenverarbeitungseinheit auf. Der erste Sensor erkennt eine IP-Adresse, die auf die Datenverarbeitungseinheit zugreift, und/oder ein Protokoll, das für den Zugriff auf die Datenverarbeitungseinheit verwendet wird. Die Einheit enthält ferner einen zweiten Sensor zum Messen des Stromverbrauchs der Datenverarbeitungseinheit und einen dritten Sensor zum Erkennen der Datenverarbeitungseinheit auf. Ein drahtloses Datenübertragungsmodul, das mit dem ersten und/oder dem zweiten Sensor verbunden ist, überträgt Daten drahtlos von dem ersten Sensor und/oder dem zweiten Sensor an eine externe Einheit.
