Abstract: @ The control system for a line printer includes compensation circuit means (29) for electronically changing the timing of the reference or home pulse to compensate for changes in the speed of the type characters (16) on a continuous type carrier (10).,The compensation circuit includes a storage register, a counter and a comparison circuit for comparing the content of the storage register and the counter. The counter when activated by a reference pulse generated from a reference mark on the moving type carrier (10) counts subscan pulses generated from timing marks moving with the type characters. The storage register, which is programmable, stores different numeric values dependent on the speed of the type carrier representing different numbers of subscan pulses to be counted by the counter means. The comparator circuit compares the numeric value in the register with the count registered in the counting means. When an equality is detected, the comparator circuit generates a modified reference or sync pulse which is applied to sync control circuitry (41) which checks the character signal produced by the type position circuitry of the printer controls.

Abstract: A hammer timing control system for a line printer has a register for continually storing a digital delay fire quantity representative of the actual flight of a controlled hammer. A delay fire counter activated by an initiate fire pulse from hammer selection circuitry of the printer control system counts the timing pulses from a clock means until it registers a count equal to the delay quantity stored in the delay fire register. A comparator circuit is connected to both the delay value register and the counter and generates a hammer fire signal when the delay quantity and the count are equal. The single counter continues counting clock pulses until a second count is registered which is equal to a terminate fire value. The control system provides circuit means responsive to the second count registered in the counter to terminate the hammer fire signal. In one embodiment, the terminate fire circuitry comprises a decode connected to the output of the counter means for detecting the second count condition. In a second embodiment, the control system has a second register which stores a terminate fire quantity which represents a fixed time after the initiate fire signal and prior to hammer impact. In a third embodiment, the counter is an up/down counter which counts in one direction to turn on the hammer driver circuit and in the other direction to turn off the hammer driver circuit. The delay fire quantities for the plurality of hammers are preferably stored in an external memory device for transfer to the individual registers for each of the print hammers. The external storage may be a magnetic record such as a disk.

Abstract: A method for applying the sealing material onto the corner regions of the substrate to realize the liquid crystal cell with large display region. A protrude region 100 is formed on each of the side regions adjacent to a display region of a first substrate 20. A difference of level is formed at each boundary of the side region and the corner region on one surface of the first substrate 20 for providing the corner region with a height which is lower than a height of the side region. A sealing material 30 is applied on the side regions and the corner regions on the one surface of the first substrate 20 by a tool for dispensing the sealing material 30. When a second substrate 10 is positioned on the applied sealing material 30 on one surface of the first substrate 20, a distance between the first substrate 20 and the second substrate 10 is decreased and the sealing material 30 applied on the first substrate 20 is collapsed.

Abstract: A printing device having a document feed path defined therein and a platen fixedly mounted adjacent the feed path, the platen having a plurality of character segments formed thereon. A plurality of impact members, there being at least one thereof for each character segment, are also positioned adjacent the document feed path and positioned thereat so that one of said impact members will strike one of the character segments. A spool-to-spool ribbon drive is adapted to position a print ribbon between the platen and the document in the feed path therefor and causes printing of each character segment where it is struck by an impact member. A document feed assembly is provided for moving each document along the feed path. Also provided is a control assembly operatively coupled between the document feed assembly and the impact members for selectively operating individual ones of the impact members in timed relationship to the motion of a document along the feed path to effect printing of selectable combinations of the character segments on the document.

Abstract: Production of a liquid crystal cell, in which 2 substrates are sealed by sealant applied around the display area, comprises (i) producing a difference in level at boundaries between the side and corner areas on one surface of a first substrate, so the corner is lower than the side; (ii) applying the sealant to these areas; (iii) pressing a 2nd substrate onto the 1st to form the hermetic seal.

Abstract: A constant energy drive circuit comprises two interconnected chopping circuits (19, 21-24 and 26-30) successively operable to control the current in a coil (10) of an electromagnetic actuator. One chopping circuit (19, 21-24) operates during the rise time portion of the operating interval, the other (26-30) operates beginning with the occurrence of a predetermined peak current and for remainder of the operating interval of fixed duration.
