Abstract: Recording arrangement in which a row of ink jet nozzles is inclined with respect to the relative motion of a recording surface to permit the variously and selectively charged drops from each nozzle to be deflected by a single pair of planar electrostatic deflection plates common to all nozzles and parallel to the row so that each nozzle is capable of producing marks at regularly spaced locations along a plurality of parallel rows. Also disclosed is a method of determining the angle of inclination. The inclination angle, nozzle spacing, and deflection levels are preferably chosen so that marks can be placed at all possible data points by a single row of nozzles in a single recording pass. The disclosed method also provides for recording in either direction, the use of two or more parallel nozzle rows, and for the interlacing of drop marks at the recording surface.

Abstract: A wire dot matrix print head suitable for a low cost computer printer is described. The print head incorporates a one piece armature (68) constructed of thin sheet metal. The armature (68) has a plurality of radial arms (204) radiating inwardly from a flexible periphery (200). Each of the arms (204) has affixed to it a moving core (70) and a pair of flanges (206) for adding rigidity. Each of the radial arms (204) is connected to the periphery (200) at an arm base (202). Each of the arm bases (202) is provided with a slight bend (208). The combination of torsional action of the arm base (202) at the bend (208) and a fixed clamping action of a cap (78) at the flexible periphery (200) provides a biasing force to each of the radial arms (204).

Abstract: 1483435 Ink drop producing INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 5 Sept 1975 [18 Dec 1974] 36568/75 Heading B6P An apparatus for causing perturbations in a liquid stream to produce successive drops comprises a nozzle unit 10 having a chamber, to which liquid is supplied under pressure, the chamber having a wall 12 with an orifice 13 which is repetitively altered in cross-section. A piezoelectric crystal transducer 15, connected to a signal generator 18, acts on the orifice 13. Several nozzles may be linearly arranged to be supported between two planar transducers.
