Abstract: A new logic and storage circuit is provided for a terminal device such as a display or printer used in a data processing system. The circuit includes a shift register that is interconnected with a control unit by a coaxial cable or other two conductor system for transferring serial messages to the control unit and for receiving serial messages from the control unit. The register is connected in parallel with other components of the terminal device. The logic and storage circuit is provided with means for detecting data bits on the two conductor message line and for forming data bits on the line in response to the contents of the register. Means is also provided for decoding control word messages from the control unit and for receiving data messages or transmitting data or status word messages from the terminal device to the control unit.
