Abstract: A perpendicular magnetic recording medium wherein a perpendicular magnetic film is formed on a substrate or a nonmagnetic film, and the perpendicular magnetic film contains Co and Cr, the content of the Cr being 22 at. % or higher but 30 at. % or less. The medium is used in a magnetic recording disk drive using a magnetoresistive read head.
