Abstract: The present invention deals with rotating an n x n block of bits through an angle of +90 degrees or -90 degrees by a method including the steps of: storing the data in a matrix; separating the matrix into groups of bits of rotatable size; transposing first preselected bit positions with second preselected bit positions in each group; and exchanging a first one or more rows of bits in the group with a second one or more rows of bits in the group.
