    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the function of a color filter having excellent color purity and a uniform liquid crystal orienting function to one film by forming the org. film of the liquid crystal display device of polyimide having a specific repeating unit. CONSTITUTION:This device has the film commonly having the function of an orienting layer which regulates the orientation of liquid crystal molecules and the function of the color filter. The film has the repeating unit expressed by any one among the formula I, II and III. Namely, the polyimide is obtd. by the condensation polymn. reaction of a diamine component and acid anhydride component. More specifically, both are subjected to a ring opening polyaddition reaction in a solvent to form a polyimide precursor. A dye is dispersed into this precursor and the dispersion is applied on a glass substrate for a liquid crystal display element and is dried and heat treated. The org. film which commonly has the functions of the color filter having the repeating unit and the liquid crystal orienting film is formed in this way.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To manufacture a liquid crystal display device which is free from light leakage and can form a high contrast, through a minimum number of manufacturing processes. CONSTITUTION: In order to obtain a cell gap Ga, a first projection 38A is formed in a black matrix 38 on an array substrate 12, and a second projection 50 is formed on a color filter substrate 13 by laminating a red color filter 46R, a green color filter 46G, and a blue color filter 46B each upon the other. Since the heights of the first and second projections 38A and 50 can be adjusted to, for example, half of the cell gap Ga, oriented films 40 and 50 can be rubbed surely. Therefore, liquid crystal molecules can be aligned surely, and the occurrence of light leakage can be prevented. Since no transparent spacer is required, in addition, the light leakage caused by the spacer does not occur. The projections 38A and 50 can be formed through the forming processes of the color filters 46 and black matrix 38 only.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To enable a high-contrast display without the occurrence of light leakage and further, to make the formation of color filters having excellent positional accuracy in arbitrary color arrangement by previously forming an insulative black matrix on a transparent conductive film and utilizing this black matrix as a mask near the parts where electrodeposited color filters are formed. CONSTITUTION: The black matrix 13 is formed of the insulative material on the glass substrate 10 formed with the transparent electrodes and after a positive type photosensitive resin 14 is applied thereon, this resin is exposed through the photomask 15 having the light transparent parts wider than the apertures of the matrix 13. After the exposed photoresist is removed by development processing, the color filters 16 of the first color are formed by an electrodeposition method. More preferably, the positive resist of the position where the color filters 17 of the adjacent second color are to be formed is similarly exposed and developed and thereafter, the color filters 17 of the second color are formed and similarly, the color filters 18 of the third color are formed. As a result, the color filters which obviate the leakage of light, have excellent alignment accuracy, have high quality and are inexpensive are obtd.

The acrylic resin having the crosslinking structure can be formed by exposing, developing and etching a negative photoresist consisting of the acrylic resin and a photopolymn. initiator.     Abstract: PURPOSE: To manufacture a color filter that is provided with general performance as a color filter and enables a high contrast display by using a reaction product of a binder polymer and a reactive dye with each other as a component of the color filter. CONSTITUTION: This color filter has at least one color layer formed from a photosensitive composition contg. a reaction product of a binder polymer and a reactive dye with each other. The binder polymer is a linear organic polymer which contains functional groups such as hydrogen radicals or amino or amide groups in its side chains in an amount sufficient to subject the reactive dye to addition reaction with the binder and is compatible with its monomer (s). For example, a homopolymer or copolymer of hydroxyethyl acrylate, aminoethyl acrylate or acrylamide, or a partially esterified compound of an acid anhydride polymer such as maleic anhydride copolymer or itaconic anhydride copolymer with glycol or aminoglycol, or the like, is useful as this binder polymer. The color filter is most appropriately used for a TFF-LCD (thin film transistor liquid crystal device) which is particularly required to provide a high contrast display and has a gradation display function.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To avert recognition as a defect by packing a negative type photosensitive resin contg. pigments of the same color into the defective part of colored pixels. CONSTITUTION: A black matrix 2 is formed of chromium on a transparent substrate 4 and, thereafter, the pigments of red, green and blue are successively applied thereon to form color filters by exposing, developing and post baking stages. CRY is again applied on the colored pixels by spin coating in order to repair the defect 3 of a red image 1R generated at this time and is developed by a prescribed developer after exposure 6. In such a case, only the photosensitive resin of the defective part is polymerized under a exposure energy condition and a material 5 for repair may be packed into the defective part 3. ITO transparent electrodes are thereafter formed by sputtering and the transparent substrate is combined with a TFT substrate, by which a liquid crystal is assembled. The negative type photosensitive resin of the same color is packed in the defective part if the defects is single color and the resin of gray is packed therein when the defect is several colors, by which the display is improved.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a gradational display by specifying the ratio of light transmissivity of light transmissivity control layers for many picture elements in one display unit. CONSTITUTION:The light transmissivity control layers 31-34 are provided inside an opposite substrate 4, i.e. on the side of a TFT array substrate 2 and arranged in areas of picture elements T1-T4, and the ratio of light transmissivity of the light transmissivity control layers 31-34 is set to 2 :2 :2 ...2 , i.e. 1:2:4:8. Therefore, the light passing and light shielding of the picture elements T1-T4 are combined to represent 16 gradations. Consequently, the gradational display is made without increasing the area of one display unit nor adjusting finely a voltage applied to liquid crystal of each picture element.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a color liquid crystal display device with color filters and light shielding layers without increasing the number of processes by electrically connecting the conductive light shielding layers on the conductive films to be laminated with the color filters and utilizing these layers for shorting electrodes for electrodeposition. CONSTITUTION: A glass substrate 1 is provided with an Mo-Ta film. This Mo-Ta is subjected to a photographic process so as to have microspacings 20 between the adjacent light shielding layers (18R, 18G, 18B) between pixels to be formed with the filters of separate colors exclusive of the outer side slightly from the inner side from the positions corresponding to pixel electrodes and the junctures with the pixels to be formed with the filters of the same colors of the same lines. Next, the entire surface is covered with ITO and the other exclusive of the ITO made to remain only in the positions corresponding to the pixel electrodes is etched away, by which films 19R to 19G are formed. Next, the G color filters 8G are formed on the films 8G with the conductive light shielding films 19G for connecting the films 18G as the shorting electrodes for electrodeposition. Henceforce, 8R, 8B are electrodeposited in the same manner. Finally, a counter glass substrate is superposed on the substrate via oriented films. The light shielding layers and the electrodeposited filters are formed by the smaller number of stages according to such constitution.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To make the contrast of a display picture high and to make a light-shielding layer thin by providing a color filter formed at a position corresponding to a chromatic color picture element and a translucent filter formed in the vicinity of the outer periphery of the position corresponding to an achromatic color picture element and the position corresponding to a picture element where the color filter is formed. CONSTITUTION: Only the filters 12, 14 and 16 of respective colors are formed on a side a little inside from the position corresponding to a picture element electrode 6 formed on a glass substrate 2 at the filter layers 9 of red, green and blue picture elements 13, 15 and 17, namely chromatic picture elements, and the translucent filter 18 and the filters 12, 14 and 16 of the respective colors are laminated at an outside position than a little inside from the position corresponding to the picture element electrode 6 formed on the position other than that, namely on the glass substrate 2. The filter layer 9 of the achromatic picture element 19 having the translucent filter 18 is constituted by laminating the translucent filter 18 and transparent material 20. Also, the light-shielding layer 21 is formed by laminating the filters 12, 14 and 16 of the respective colors and the translucent filter 18. Thus, high contrast is obtained and the light-shielding layer is made thin.
