[Also in Division G5] In a teaching machine (see Division G5) wherein a pick-up head 85 is mounted on a carriage 93 which is movable along a guide 91 to reciprocate the head transversely of a record medium, means are also provided for moving the guide together with the carriage longitudinally of the record medium. This means includes both a spring motor and an electric motor operable as follows. To move the pick-up carrying assembly in the direction 145, a spring motor 153 acts through a cable 155 under the control of a ratchet device (Fig. 4, not shown). Movement in the opposite direction, 147, is effected by an electric motor 157. It is stated that the electric motor "overcomes the force" of the spring motor: in effect therefore, the electric motor, in effecting movement in the direction 147, also recharges the spring motor in preparation for the next movement in the direction 145.
