Abstract:
Methods and systems are provided for check code line recognition at a point-of-sale terminal having OCR and MICR capabilities. Images of problematic characters are extracted and automatically transmitted to a remote location for on-line manual validation or data entry. Video coding of problematic characters is performed for the correction of either or both MICR and OCR results. The correctly encoded characters are returned to the point of sale within a few seconds, and combined as necessary with locally recognized characters, to assemble a correct code line for entry into a payment system.
Abstract:
A computer-implemented method for processing forms includes accepting a form conforming to a template at a computer system having a local memory, wherein the template is not stored in the local memory. Identification information is extracted from the form using the computer system. The identification information indicates a network address of a remote storage location external to the computer system, in which the template is stored. The template is retrieved responsively to the identification information by communication with the remote storage location via a wide area network (WAN). The form is processed responsively to the retrieved template.

At least one distorted word in the image the page is identified such that each distorted word corresponds to a high quality word of the set. A global transformation function is generated for application to the image of the page so as to transform the distorted word into its corresponding high quality word. The global transformation function is applied to pixels of the image of the page.

Un método de corrección de ondulación de página en libros registrados por exploración electrónica implementado por computadora para corregir la distorsión en una imagen de una página incluye identificar en conjunto de palabras de alta calidad (HQ) en regiones no distorsionadas de una o más imágenes de páginas que tengan contenidos relaciona con el contenido de la página. Al menos una palabra distorsionada de la imagen de la página es identificada, de modo que cada palabra distorsionada corresponda a una palabra de alta calidad del conjunto. Se genera una función de transformación global para aplicarse a la imagen de la página para transformar la palabra distorsionada en su palabra de alta calidad correspondiente. La función de transformación global es aplicada a los píxeles de la imagen de la página.

Ein Verfahren, System und Computerprogrammprodukt werden zum Verarbeiten eines Ultraschallbilds, insbesondere eines Bildes von inhomogenem Gewebe, bereitgestellt. Das Verfahren beinhaltet: Segmentieren von Gewebe in einem empfangenen Ultraschallbild; Erzeugen einer Maske von Bildpunkten, die zentral auf einen Bildpunkt in einem Gewebebereich ausgerichtet sind, wobei sich die Bildpunkte in der Maske innerhalb eines festgelegten Dezibelbereichs des zentralen Bildpunkts und innerhalb einer Segmentierungsgrenze befinden; und Zuweisen einer Dämpfung für den zentralen Bildpunkt durch Schätzen der Dämpfung der Bildpunkte in der Maske. Bei dem empfangenen Ultraschallbild kann es sich um ein Rohbild handeln, und das Verfahren kann ein Erzeugen eines Bildes einer Dämpfungsabbildung von Dämpfungen für jeden Bildpunkt in einem Gewebebereich beinhalten. Alternativ kann es sich bei dem empfangenen Ultraschallbild um ein Bild mit Tiefenausgleich handeln, und das Verfahren kann ein Bestimmen von Bereichen mit relativ hoher oder niedriger Dämpfung beinhalten.

An improved method is disclosed for generating a compressed representation of a source data string each symbol of which is taken from a finite set of m + 1 symbols, a0 to am . 'The method is based on an arithmetic coding procedure wherein the compressed representation is recursively generated as successive sub-intervals within a predetermined interval. The width of each sub-interval is theoretically equal to the width of the previous sub-interval multiplied by the probability of the current symbol. The improvement is achieved by approximating the width of the previous sub-interval so that the approximation can be obtained by a single shift and add operation using a suitable shift register.
