Abstract: The main micro-processor (1) does not have a storage protection mechanism and is used to perform different tasks. Input/output devices (4) are connected to and controlled by the microprocessor and a read/write memory (6) contains data and/or code for use by the microprocessor in performing the tasks. An auxiliary microprocessor is operable to monitor accesses by the main microprocessor of the memory for validating these accesses. When an error is detected, it causes the main microprocessor to terminate execution of the task giving rise to the error, although other independent tasks may be allowed to proceed. The auxiliary microprocessor is pref. arranged to maintain an input stack containing active task identification information and target memory addresses for each with instruction executed by the main microprocessor.
