In a demodulator for frequency-shift binary data a flip-flop 13 pulses at each positive-going transient from limiter 12, and flip-flop 18 pulses briefly at each negative-going transient. Flipflop 13 feeds flip-flop 14 which in turn feeds AND gate 16 and, via flip-flop 15, AND gate 17. The timings of the astable periods of the flip-flops are such that the short pulses from unit 18 pass via gate 16 when the higher frequency waveform is received, and via gate 17 when the lower frequency is received. The number of pulses passed by the gates per bit will correspond to the number of cycles in each received bit. Filter 22 acts as a threshold unit so that toggle 21 pulses only after reception of a preset of pulses, so that spurious signals do not operate the toggle.
