Abstract: The specification discloses a word processing system having a keyboard, a display, a processor and a random access memory for storing data and programs. The display includes a first text area wherein text entered through the keyboard is displayed. The display also includes a prompt line through which all input between the operator and the word processing system occurs. The system provides deadkey compression wherein the depression of selected deadkeys on the keyboard causes the automatic generation of a required backspace in order to enable the construction of a diacritic character and the display of the constructed diacritic character in either the text display area or the prompt line. Abstract: ARITHMETIC MENU FOR INFORMATION PROCESSING SYSTEM An information processing system (10) includes a terminal (12) with a display screen (16) and a keyboard (18). The terminal (12) operates in conjunction with a diskette storage (14). An arithmetic menu is prepared which represents a mathematical function and includes an answer item, at least one operand item and optionally a mathematical operation item. The arithmetic menu further includes an equation line (40). When the system operator creates a document which requires a mathematical function the arithmetic menu can be called up from memory. The operator enters parameter terms for each of the items in the memory. As the operator enters the parameters for the arithmetic elements, these parameters are displayed on the equation line (40) in an algebraic format. The operator monitors the equation line to insure that the appropriate parameters are being entered and that the correct mathematical function is being utilized. After the parameters are entered into the arithmetic menu the mathematical operation is carried out and the results are incorporated into the document being prepared by the operator. AT9-81-023

Abstract: REPORT PREPARATION A system for use in an electronic digital signal processor for assembling multiple report definition instructions to create a shell document to generate a file report. The system enables an operator to depress an instruction key to call up an instruction menu and select for display the report definition instruction menu (360). The operator chooses report instructions desired in any order (362), and the system inserts chosen instructions in proper order to build the shell document (364). The operator keys report information in between the instructions (366). The shell document is stored in machine-dependent language to enable the document to be redisplayed in operator-dependent language as determined by the current program loaded in the processor.
