Abstract: A method for correction of non-impact printed matter which is formed by depositing a thermoplastic marking material on the print sheet. The method uses a correction tape or ribbon comprising a substrate which carries a pressure transferable opaque, adherent pigmented material on one face. The correction ribbon is positioned between the erroneously printed character and a correction device which is actuated to produce sufficient pressure to move the correction ribbon into intimate contact with the erroneously printed character. The pigmented material is transferred selectively only to cover the erroneously printed character so that the correct character can then be printed and is not transferred to the remainder of the character area. In an alternate embodiment, the correction device is actuated concurrently with a backspace operation.

Abstract: An electrochromic display device consists of orthogonal electrodes 26, 30 on the flat inner faces of a panel. The electrochromic composition in the panel, preferably a pyrazoline, has a threshold potential above which a display effect is achieved at a crossover point of the electrodes. The drive means 58 is of such low impedance and the electrodes are of such low resistance that the voltage levels at display sites (crossovers) are independent of whether or not a display is a being effected at a display site. The display effect is temporary and is cyclically regenerated. The time average of voltage signals across unselected display sites is zero. Electrodes 28 consist of tin oxide and a central gold conductor 34 to decrease resistance. Electrodes 30 are of gold.

Abstract: An electrothermal printer uses heat-developable strip (16) which is held on a sector of rotating platen (12) by an endless loop (30) passing over two rollers (22,24). A stylus assembly (40) between the roller (22,24) can pass current via selected styli through parts of the loop (30). The loop (30) has an outer electrically conductive layer and an inner electrically conductive and resistive layer which is contacted by the styli and is locally heated by the current flow. The loop (30) and paper (16) are in contact and move in synchronism over a common path section, when heat generated in the loop (30) transfers to and heat-develops the paper.
