Abstract: A fluid jet printing system includes a vibrating nozzle for emitting a stream of fluid which is broken into a series of uniform drops. The drops are charged by a voltage which is generated from a symbol code input by a symbol generator which produces a charging voltage representation for each drop of each symbol to be printed. The symbol generator includes a symbol storage means having stored in each location a representation of the charging voltage to be applied to each fluid drop. Deflection electrodes which supply an electric field for the purpose of deflecting charged fluid drops are positioned at an angle with respect to a base line for a row of symbols to provide greater flexibility and more accurate placement of fluid drops on a record media surface.

Abstract: INK JET NOZZLE ARRANGEMENT Method of improving mark alignment by causing substantially simultaneous impact on a recording medium of drops issuing as a series from an ink jet nozzle moving relative to the recording medium, by successively decreasing the deflection of each drop in the series and positioning the nozzle with respect to the recording surface to alter the respective path lengths of the drops such that the first and last drops of the series reach the recording member at approximately the same time.

Abstract: INK JET PRINTER APPARATUS AND METHOD OF PRINTING An ink jet printer apparatus and method using ink carrying magnetizable particles, the ink being passed as a stream of droplets sequentially through an electromagnetic field and an electrostatic field, in that order. The droplets are selectively charged electrostatically. All drops are subjected to a time dependent magnetic flux field which effects scans of the drops at a recording surface. Drops not to be used are deflected by electrostatic deflection plates to a gutter.

Abstract: 1403276 Printers INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 12 Feb 1973 [6 April 1972] 6757/73 Heading G4H [Also in Division B6] An ink droplet printer comprises droplet generation means 25, droplet deflection means 32, 33 and droplet charging means in the form of a plurality of charging elements 35 spaced along the path of travel of a droplet, selection of a charging element governing the position at which the droplet strikes a record medium 27. The charging elements 35 are supplied from a constant voltage source V 1 under control of shift registers 40-42 responsive to data input lines 43-45 and single shots 49-51 controlling phase synchronism. A phase maintenance system 47 responsive to a drop formation oscillator 29, drop charging pulses and phase sample pulses, for example one for each line printed, includes a logic box (54, Fig. 3, not shown) and controls the single shots 49-51.

Abstract: BI-DIRECTIONAL DOT MATRIX PRINTER A dot matrix printer apparatus has a magnetic ink jet recording head which projects a continuous stream of ferrofluid ink drops toward a print medium. The ink drops are rastered in the direction orthogonal to the direction of relative motion of the recording head and the print medium to form characters from columns of dots. The slant of the characters caused by the change in direction of relative motion is controlled by reversing the direction or sequence of rastering of ink drops when the direction of printing reverses.
