    Abstract: PURPOSE: To decrease flicker on a screen and to use a driving circuit IC in a small chip size with low power consumption by making different for each picture element the connection of thin film transistors for driving respective picture elements to row signal lines and column signal lines, and driving the respective picture elements between the adjacent picture elements while mutually inverting polarities. CONSTITUTION: A gate driving circuit 1 is connected to (n) pieces of row signal lines G1 -Gn and outputs a gate signal Gn . A 1st data driving circuit 2 is connected to odd-numbers column signal lines D1 -Dm-1 and outputs a 1st data signal VDm . Besides, a 2nd data driving circuit 3 is connected to even-numbered signal lines D2 -Dm-2 and outputs a 2nd data signal VDm+1 . In this case, the polarity of the 1st data signal VDm is inverse to that of the 2nd data signal VDm+1 . Thus, without increasing the cost of the data driving circuit and increasing power consumption, flicker on the screen can be decreased.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To simultaneously eliminate flicker and crosstalk by inverting the polarity of a data signal outputted to a data signal line at each time of coming of a picture element to be set to a prescribed state. CONSTITUTION: A frame start signal input terminal 6 is connected to the CK terminal of a first J-K flip flop 9, to which a frame start signal is applied, and the preset PR terminal of a second J-K flip flop 10. A digital signal input terminal 7 is connected to the J terminal and the K terminal of the second J-K flip flop 10 and a digital data output terminal 13. A clock signal input terminal 8 is connected to the CK terminal of the second J-K flip flop 10, to which a clock signal is applied, and a clock signal output terminal 14. In this case, the polarity of the data signal outputted to the data signal line is inverted at each time of coming of a picture element to be set to a prescribed state.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To make the display quality of a horizontal line, a vertical line and an oblique line the same by arranging three color picture elements at the apexes of squares whose diagonal directions are equal and successively arraying the color picture elements in the diagonal direction. CONSTITUTION: The red picture element 2, the green picture element 4 and a blue picture element 6 are arranged at the apexes of the squares 2S, 4S and 6S in the direction of a line 8D. The squares 2S, 4S and 6S have the same size, and their diagonals are the same and in the direction of the line 8D. The line 8D is extended in the direction of 45 deg. to a horizontal direction. Since the picture elements 2, 4 and 6 are arranged at the apexes of the squares 2S, 4S and 6S having the same size, distances between the respective picture elements in the horizontal and vertical directions are the same. Thus, since three picture elements are equally and dispersedly arranged, a stripe is not caused even when all the color picture elements are set to a light transmitting or light emitting state.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide the liquid crystal display device of uniform display characteristics having no flicker on a display screen by making equal 'through voltages' to all picture elements and making uniform the write characteristics and hold characteristics of the respective picture elements. CONSTITUTION: When gate signals are successively impressed from a gate driving circuit to gate lines 40a, 40b and 40c, TFT 20, 22, 21 and 23 are successively driven. At the same time, data signals are respectively impressed from a data driving circuit to data lines 30a, 30b and 30c and data are written in picture elements 10, 11, 12 and 13. By changing the channel width of respective TFT for driving the respective picture elements in proportion to the dimensions of respective picture element electrodes, the influence (through voltage) of the gate driving voltage upon picture element electrode potential, the time of write to liquid crystal and the holding time of liquid crystal are fixed regardlessly of the dimensions of picture element electrodes, and flicker on the display screen is prevented.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To reduce the number of analog switches, the number of liquid crystal driving power supplies and the number of inputs of a driver by simultaneously impressing two levels of voltage through two analog switches capable of simultaneously turning on liquid crystal driving voltage. CONSTITUTION: Since D0=0 is set up when input data are (D0=0, D1=1 and D2=1), a selector 11 turns on only an analog switch SW3 and impresses driving voltage V3 to a data line. Since D1=1 and D2=1 are set up when input data are (C0=0, D1=0 and D2=1), the selector 11 turns on a switch SW of a succeeding level simultaneously with the ON of the switch SW2 and impresses R3.V2+ R2.V3/R2+R3 to the data line. In the case of 8-gradation level display, the number of power supplies and the number of analog switches can be respectively reduced from conventional eight units to five units, and in the case of K gradation level display, the number of power supplies and the number of analog switches are respectively reduced to (K/2+1) units.

    Abstract: A method and an apparatus for driving a liquid crystal display, in which flicker and cross talk are removed for arbitrary display patterns. The liquid crystal display has a plurality of scan lines, a plurality of data lines, and a plurality of pixels arranged in a matrix at the intersections of the scan and the data lines. The polarity of data signals outputted to the data lines is inverted for each occurrence of a pixel to be placed into a predetermined state. The predetermined state may be a dark state or a bright state of a binary display, or one of several levels of a display having more than two gray scale levels.
