    Abstract: A method and system for managing power in a computer system is disclosed. The computer system (100) includes a host (102). The method and system include providing a Universal Serial Bus (USB) hub (106), at least one USB connector (104, 108, 110) and attach/removal detection logic (120). The at least one USB connector is coupled with the USB hub. The attach/removal detection logic is coupled with the USB hub. The attach/removal detection logic determines whether a USB device is connected to the at least one USB connector, logically decouples the USB hub from the host if the USB device is not connected to the at least one USB connector and logically couples the USB hub to the host if the USB device is connected to the at least one USB connector.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To add a new function to a peripheral device without adding change on a hardware to an interface part by providing a means for making an operation different from a specified operation be performed in response to detection by a detection means. CONSTITUTION: To this floppy disk device 231, a response means 53 for sending track 0 signals to the side of a system main body 201 in response to the detection means 51 is added. The track 0 signals are used so as to report that the side of the floppy disk device 231 receives the command of the change of a motor rotation number to the side of the system main body 201. At the time of changing the motor rotation number by sending step signals to the floppy disk device 231, the physical position of a head 37 immediately before generating a first step signal is required to be on a track 0. When the step signals are issued for three times with the intervals of 8ms under such a condition, the track 0 signals become active and the rotation number of a spindle motor 37 is changed from 360rpm to 300rpm.
