Abstract: A display system having a buffered control unit for controlling a plurality of buffered terminal devices, the terminal devices being either display devices, printer devices or a combination of both. A copy operation is performed by the control unit to control the transfer of data from the buffer of one terminal device to the buffer of another terminal device attached to the control unit, the terminal device whose buffer is copied being termed the ''''FROM'''' terminal device and the terminal device that receives the copied data being termined the ''''TO'''' terminal device. The copy operation of the control unit is controlled in accordance with a copy control character which identifies the type of data to be copied and can also selectively designate, to the ''''TO'''' terminal device, a start print operation, specify the printout format and that an audible alarm is to be sounded. The ''''FROM'''' terminal device may be locked so that the data in its buffer may not be copied by providing a word in the first location of the ''''FROM'''' terminal device buffer which designates its data as protected data.

Abstract: A display system is shown which has a source of coded information in display mapped format and includes plural devices for decoding and utilizing the information in accordance with its position in that mapped format. In the illustrated embodiment, the source includes a refresh buffer and the utilization devices include an attribute decoder and a character generator. A character row counter controls gating which causes the apparatus to treat bytes of data, having attribute format, truly as attributes or as addresses of members of an extra, graphical character set of the character generator.

Abstract: A hybrid connector system comprising a special jack, a standard coaxial plug effective to make contact with the jack in one mode when inserted therein, and a wire pair plug operable to engage the special jack in another mode when plugged thereinto, the wire pair plug element being adaptable to, or configured especially for, use with shielded twisted pair cables, unshielded twisted pair cables, or ordinary telephone lines.The jack or socket member has first second and third concentric contact members, two of which are arranged to engage respectively, the central and shell contacts of a coaxial cable plug. The third of the contact elements of the socket member is interposed between the first and second contact elements, and the three contact elements are positioned to engage corresponding contact elements of the special plug which, when inserted into the socket completes connection to first and second ones of a wire pair and, optionally, a shield of such wire pair.Switch means are arranged to be operated between open and closed conditions by one of the kinds of plugs which the hybrid is designed to receive.
