    Abstract: A disk drive contains an integrally-formed one-piece hub, clamp and rotor housing, which is preferably injection-molded plastic. In the preferred embodiment, the hub includes a hollow cylindrical portion for surrounding a set of bearings mounted on a central shaft, and a flange portion extending from the middle of the cylinder and supporting a single disk. Compliant clamping fingers on the upper surface of the flange engage the disk through its central hole. The fingers are inclined slightly outward, and include a pawl at the end of each finger. During assembly, the disk is forced over the pawls of the fingers until they engage the disk. The fingers, being slightly elastic, will deform to permit the disk to slide over the pawls, and then return to lock the disk in place. The fingers automatically center the disk about the hub axis, without the need for centering tools. The hub also serves as a housing for the rotor of a spindle motor which rotates the disk. A back iron ring and permanent magnets are attached to the underside of the flange at its outer edge to form the rotor. An electromagnetic stator assembly surrounds the disk axis in the annular space defined by the flange, the permanent magnets and back iron at the outer edge, and the cylindrical portion of the hub at the inner edge.

    Abstract: A load/unload device to remove the slider from the proximity of the magnetic recording surface of a disk in a disk drive whenever the disk is to be stopped is disclosed. The load/unload device is a ramp-like wedge which extends generally radially from the center of the magnetic disk and to the magnetic recording surface of the magnetic disk. When the slider is moved toward the center of the disk by an actuator mechanism, the end of the load arm supporting the slider, referred to as a tang, will engage the inclined plane of the wedge and lift the slider from the surface of the magnetic disk as the slider is translated closer to the center of the disk. Once the slider has been removed from close proximity of the disk, the tang may engage a trough-like surface on the structure supporting the wedge and will effectively detent the position of the slider through the forces exerted on the tang by the load beam of the actuator. Thus the disk will be protected from undesirable and damaging impacts of the slider against the magnetic recording surface of the disk thereby prolonging disk utility.

    Abstract: The invented storage device (100) with a rotating disk contains a motor shaft (502) being attached to the disk drive base (104), a bearing assembly (504), whose stationary part is fixedly attached to the motor shaft (502) and whose rotating parts are fixedly attached to a hub (103) being performed integral and containing a hollow cylinder (201) with a radial flange (202). On the hollow cylinder (201) upper surface (515) is put a disk (101). Said hub (203) is attached to a yoke (505) that has a set of fixedly attached rotor permanent magnets (506)A stator (508) being located opposite to said permanent magnet (506) set is attached in co-axial position to the disk drive base (104). It has at least one converter head (109) placed on a movable control (105) mounted on the disk drive base (104). The device further contains a clamping structure being performed integral with the hub (103) and consisting of an upper surface (515) of the flange (202), the hub (102) and a set of resilient fingers (203) being uniformly distributed on the circumference of the flange (202), whereby each finger (203) is provided at its upper end with a pawl (601) and passes through the disk (101) central hole, whereby the pawls (601) are in contact with the disk (101) and each finger (203) has a projection (802).
