Abstract: When a user selects (step 410) a program element, e.g. a film for which a charge will be levied, they are given the choice (step 420) of receiving accompanying advertising material. If the user declines to receive the advertisement they are charged (step 425) and the element is transmitted (step 435) and displayed (step 445) on their TV set. If advertising is accepted, the system selects relevant material (step 430), ascribes some or all of the charge to the advertiser (step 440), and the element is transmitted (step 450) and displayed (step 460) on the user's TV along with the advertisements. Independent claims are included for: (a) a computer program product storing instructions for transmission of a chargeable element to a user; (b) and a system for transmission of a chargeable element to a user.
