[Class 106 (i)] [Also in Groups VIII and XXIV] A record - punching machine provided with a punch element mounted for reciprocation, a rotary actuating cam and an interposer positionable between the punch element and the actuating cam whereby the punch element will be operated during rotation of the cam, is characterized by the provision'of a rotary restoring cam engageable directly with the punch element to restore it and gear connections between said cams to drive them in unison. As shown in Fig. 7, operation of an appropriate magnet (not shown), connected to rod 52 withdraws a latch 49 so that upon rotation of triangular cam 56 a lever 38 pivoted at 39 is moved under pressure of spring 47 to position interposer 36 between a rotating cam 33 and the head of a punch 29. After operation the punch is restored by cams 42 geared to cam 33. The machine punches a blank tape in conformity with perforations in a tape 10, Fig. 4, sensing and punching for successive columns taking place simultaneously for three groups or decks of perforations, the sensing of one set of columns in the master tape being effected whilst the preceding set is being punched in the duplicate tape. Sensing of the master tape (not shown) is by means of three contact rollers, one for each deck, and three co-acting sets of brushes, electrically connected to the punch-controlling magnets. The tapes are fed through the machine by means of pin wheels engaging the feed holes 13 of the tapes.
