Abstract: A filter insert 10 comprises a body portion 12 and a closed-ended tube 14, an open end of which is sealingly affixed around the periphery of the body portion 12; an inlet aperture 16 and an outlet aperture 18 each aperture communicating via a through hole in the body portion 12 with the interior of the tube 14. A filter medium 20 is located within the tube 14 and is sealingly interposed between the inlet aperture 16 and the outlet aperture 18. The tube 14 is at least partially manufactured of a flexible plastics material, and the body portion 12 is relatively rigid. Preferably the body portion 12 is a mounting disc with spigot portions that fit with an interior surface of the filter medium. Advantageously the filter insert may be used to filter water in domestic and coiuinercial settings where canister type, in-line filters are used.

Abstract: A filter insert 28 for filtering a fluid such as water, comprises an elongate closed-ended tube including a circumferential sealing rim and a conduit 38 for conveying fluid. One end of the conduit forms an inlet opening and the other end of the conduit is suitable for dispersing fluid into a filter medium 30, such as resin located within the tube. The filter insert may be received within a housing 12 wherein the upper end is affixed to a connection head 14 containing an inlet aperture for connection to a fluid supply and an outlet aperture connected to a tap using the filtered fluid. Also disclosed is a further invention directed to a spreader 40 for dispersing fluid into a filter medium characterised by a body portion with faces having slats (Fig 11, 92a,92b) and apertures (Fig 11, 94) and a seal portion (Fig 11, 90).
