    Abstract: Toothpaste Prepd. from ZrSO4 with particle size of less than 8u, pref. a mixture of sizes such as 0-3 u, (80-95%); 3-5 mu, (0-15%); and 5-8 mu, (0.12%), which is dispersed in a mixture of Ca2P2O7, CaHPO4, CaHPO42H2O, a high polymer resin such as melamine-formaldehyde, insoluble sodium metaphosphate, CaCO3, talc and tremolite, together with disinfectants and fluorides. The new product is a valuable aid to dental cleansing and polishing.

    Abstract: Prophylactic dental paste compositions comprising zirconium silicate (ZrSiO4) and tin dioxide (SnO2). The new compositions are efficient for cleaning and polishing teeth while reducing hard tooth structure loss due to abrasion. A composition is prepared containing ZrSiO4 (50-99%, pref. 75-92.5% by wt.) and the balance of SnO2. A 9:1 wt. ratio of ZrSiO4 to SnO2 is preferred. The ZrSiO4 particles are distributed throughout three levels, namely 10-50% of particles up to about 20 microns (pref. 10-20 microns), 5-25% of particles of 50-75 microns and the residue of particles of 20-50 microns in size.

    Abstract: Oral anticaries compositions comprising a carrier and an ammonium salt of a condensate of ammonia and phosphorus pentoxide, esp. those of formulae (Compounds described in US 2,122,122). Used in dentifrices, mouthwashes etc. for prevention of dental caries and dental calculus. Anti-caries activity is increased in presence of F' and pref. in presence of Sn . Preferred compositions contain 5-15% of the active salts. A clinical trial of the compositions on 250 children aged 10-13 in a fluorine-deficient area showed that the 3 groups of 50 children using dentifrices contng. "Victamide" commercially available products of the above formulae, showed 65-75% less carious surfaces than in the group of 50 children using only a calcium pyrophosphate dentifrice. The group using pyrophosphate + SnF2 showed only a 43.6% reduction in carious surfaces.

    Abstract: Indium fluorogermanate Anticaries prophylaxis. Compound has high activity, does not discolour oral tissues, is stable and is non-toxic. By coprecipitation, e.g. by indium chloride and ammonium fluorogermanate, or by fusion of the two reactants. Dentifrices contain pref. 0.1-1.0% of the cpd.; prophylactic pastes may contain 10-30%. Mouse LD50 85 mg/kg. (that of NaF is 36mg/kg). A prophylactic paste contained indium fluorogermanate 20%, zirconium silicate 55%, liquid and minor ingredients 25%. A dentifrice contained indium fluorogermanate 0.2%, zirconium silicate 40%, sorbitol 20%, glycerol 10%, Na CMC 1.08%, coconut acid-monoglyceride-Na sulphonate 0.81%, Na lauryl sulphate 0.7%, minor ingredients and aromatic agents 1.84%, water to 100%.
