Abstract: A hydrophone housing (20) includes a hydrophone module or cap (56), which contains a hydrophone. The hydrophone housing (20) clamps around a marine seismic cable (16). Abstract: A three-axis seismic vibrator (10) is provide which imparts compressional and shear wear seismic vibrations, either sequentially or simultaneously, into the Earth's surface. The seismic vibrator includes an earth-contacting baseplate (12) which transmits vibrational energy into the Earth's surface; a support structure; a vibrator assembly (20) pivotally supported at one end by the support structure; and servo-hydraulic control circuits (21) which activate reciprocal vibration along the vibratory axis of the vibrator assembly and sustained oscillatory vibration of the vibrator assembly. The vibrations thus generated are transferred to the baseplate and injected into the Earth's surface. These vibrations and their reflections can then be recorded and analyzed to determine the mineral content of the Earth's surface in the immediate area.

Abstract: An improved geophysical data acquisition system is disclosed for enhancing effective system bandwidth of a seismic signal having an amplitude frequency spectrum characterized by high amplitude low frequencies and low amplitude high frequencies. A low-cut filter (35) is provided which has a frequency response with its low frequency end attenuation limited. The low-cut filter (35) has the effect of increasing effective channel bandwith while simultaneously allowing low frequency signals from deep within the earth to be included in the output signal. Effective channel bandwidth is increased because low frequency seismic signals are attenuated, automatically allowing channel gain to be increased by a gain ranging amplifier. Increased channel gain automatically amplifies the low-amplitude high-frequency end of the spectrum resulting in increased effective bandwidth. A high frequency boost filter (30) is provided whereby the high frequency signal components of the seismic signals may be further relatively amplified thereby enhancing the channel effective bandwidth. The boost filter (30) is provided in the system's input stage in order to keep its effect on system input noise to a minimum.

Abstract: The system for suppressing an ambient noise signal which contaminates a desired signal includes a noise pickup detector (21) for detecting the ambient noise signal. A noise discriminator (22) processes the detected noise signal into noise data. A reference noise generator (40) converts the noise data into a reference noise signal. The noise generator (40) automatically adjusts the reference noise signal to correspond with changes in the noise signal as it is being detected. A filter (24) filters the reference noise signal into an error signal which is adapted to remove the noise signal from the contaminated signal. A cross-correlator (42) cross-correlates the contaminated signal with the reference noise signal and adjusts the filter (24) to produce the required error signal.
