Abstract: The present invention relates to a gas-driven rotary filter comprising: a) a housing; b) a filter drum positioned within the housing and rotatable about its axis in a first direction within the housing; and c) means to provide a flow of gas within a gas space between the circumference of the filter drum and the housing in a second direction, characterised in that the gas-driven rotary filter is adapted to inhibit migration of solvent vapour through a gas space between an end of the filter drum and the housing. The invention also relates to a method for separating a solid from a solvent in the gas-driven rotary filter, and a process for manufacturing an aromatic dicarboxylic acid incorporating this method.
