Abstract:
A process for making a solution of a copolymer of maleic anhydride (MA) and methyl vinyl ether (MVE) monomers the specific viscosity (SV) of the product being about 2.5-6 preferably 3-5, indicating a weight average molecular weight of substantially above one million, preferably above 1.5 million and a solids content of about 20-45% preferably 30-40, in isopropyl acetate (IPAc), solvent includes the steps of (a) precharging part of MVE in IPAc into a reactor heated to about 50-90°C, and then (b) feeding (i) a solution of MA in IPAc, (ii) the rest of MVE, at a mole ratio of MA:MVE of 1:>=1.5 to 1:
Abstract:
A stable, aqueous polymeric composition which forms a clear to translucent film upon application to a substrate includes, by weight, 5 - 75 % of (a) a water-soluble polymer having (b) in situ-formed, substantially water-insolub le resinous particles of said polymer substantially uniformly dispersed therein , and (c) 25 - 95 % of water.
Abstract:
An aqueous product includes discrete, stabilized, microdroplets of an oil an d an in situ polymerized water-soluble vinyl monomer containing a thickening agent to suspend the microdroplets homogeneously throughout the medium.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a 1-8% crosslinked terpolymer of a C1-C4 alkyl vinyl ether, maleic anhydride and a hydrophobic C6 to C18 alkyl vinyl ether in a critical molar ratio of from 1-3:1:0.01-0.20, which polymer has a pH of from about 4 to about 11, a Brookfield viscosity of from about 10,000 to about 150,000 cps and is characterized as having desirable salt tolerance enhanced viscosity, stability, low residual monomers and enhanced use characteristics. The invention also relates to liquid or aqueous gel compositions of the crosslinked terpolymer containing a salt and a method for the preparation of said crosslinked terpolymer gel.
Abstract:
This invention relates to stable colorless concentrates and stock solutions of 1-5% crosslinked lower alkyl vinyl ether/maleic anhydride copolymers having a Brookfield viscosity of up to about 25,000 cps and to the process for their preparation.
