Abstract:
In this seat valve the flow direction is in opposition to the valve opening and the valve actuator closes a connection between the chamber on the downstream side of the valve and a lowpressure reservoir before lifting the valve from its seat.
Abstract:
A rotary accelerometer using a piezoxide (prepolarized ceramic piezoelectric element). A shaft drives a rotating mass in the form of a cylindrical sleeve through a resilient connection in one embodiment. During angular deceleration, the rotating mass tends to lead because of inertia and the resulting force is applied to a cam device which converts that force into a compressive stress applied to the piezoxide to generate a voltage analog of deceleration. In another embodiment a block mass is attached to a piezoxide block directly, so that inertial forces during deceleration are directly applied to the piezoxide. The combination is then mounted so as to respond to tangential forces about a decelerating shaft.
Abstract:
A hydrostatic brake having a swashplate which actuates a series of circularly spaced pistons movable in cylinders having energy dissipating suction and discharge valves. The angle of the swashplate is variable in response to a brake signal to increase the stroke of the pistons and thereby the load on the shaft rotating the swashplate.
Abstract:
A lubricated sliding bearing is disclosed for use in a system employing a pressure medium to provide lubrication. The sliding bearing is held in a mid-position between two opposite guide surfaces.
Abstract:
A hydraulic boosting system employs one pump and one reservoir or tank to control a brake booster, a power steering system and an antiskid hydraulic control device. The pump and reservoir are connected in series with a bypass flow governor, a brake booster control valve and a power steering control valve. The antiskid hydraulic control device in the form of a double acting plunger is connected in parallel to the bypass flow governor to provide the required difference of pressure on opposite sides of the double acting plunger.
Abstract:
In a pressure accumulator having a cylindrical housing, a coaxial perforated pipe supported within the housing through which pressure medium flows and an elastic tubular partition dividing the space between the housing and the pipe into an outer annular gas chamber and an inner chamber. The ends of the cylindrical housing have recessed sections and tapered end rings which press the elastic tube against the recessed sections to seal the accumulator. The rings also support the perforated tube and have means for fitting the accumulator in a pressure line.
Abstract:
The wheel suspension arrangement is mounted on and guided by transversal swinging arms with the disc brake being positioned between the chassis frame and the wheel swivel axis, preferably with the swivel axis being disposed at right angles to the roadway in the driving direction. A steering knuckle is aligned along the swivel axis. A connection is established between the transversal swinging arms and the steering knuckle by means of bifurcated bridging elements which overlap the edge of the brake disc and rest on pivot bearings in the steering knuckle such that these pivot bearings receive the flexural torque of the bridging elements rather than the disc brake.
Abstract:
A fluid volume indicator for tanks having a follower, the position of which is directly proportional to the volume of the fluid in the tank and a visible indicator between the follower and a fixed wall, the indicator being movable along the axis of the follower and being acted upon by the two opposed helical compression springs, one between the indicator and the follower and the other one between the indicator and the fixed wall of the tank so that the movement of the indicator is proportional to the movement of the follower.
Abstract:
A drum-braking system, particularly applicable to vehicular use, and having both external and internal shoes is shown. A carrier assembly on which actuators for both shoes are mounted, is itself mounted with a small amount of radial translational freedom with respect to an axle or steering knuckle. Movement within that freedom is controlled by a bimetal strip which is placed so as to be heated by the drum. A spring loop connects the bimetal strip to the carrier and acts to restore the external shoe clearance after drum cooling; the heating action having acted to adapt the external shoe clearance to heat induced drum distortion. The characteristics of the spring loop are such that the spring will deform partially plastically when its deflection is relatively great during heating because the brake linings have been allowed to wear beyond a predetermined amount. Thus adjustment for lining wear is combined in the structure for adjusting to heat-induced temporary drum distortions.
