Abstract: The present invention relates to a woven polyester fabric for use in airbags. The present invention includes a woven fabric using a polyester filament yam, wherein the polyester filament yam has a tenacity of about 65 cN/tex or greater and an Instantaneous Thermal Creep (ITC) at 100° C of about 0.5 % or less. Additional embodiments of the present invention include an airbag made from the woven polyester fabric. Woven fabrics of the present invention can reduce the extent of seam combing during a hot module deployment of an airbag.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the combination of a tension gate (18) and an air shield (24) in the relax zone of a fiber production process. The combination provides a synergistic effect over an air shield (24) alone, or a tension gate (18) alone, or the added effect of both a tension gate (18) and an air shield (24). The air shield (24) is a plate like structure with or without perforations. The air shield plates (26, 28) are placed in close proximity to a pair of rolls (20, 22) following the tension gate (18). The plates (26, 28) are positioned inside of the threadline between the pair of rolls (20, 22). The tension gate (18) can be one or more air drag devices, one or more liquid drag devices, or one or more solid surface contact devices, or a combination of any of the above. The apparatus and the process for using the apparatus is disclosed and claimed.

Abstract: A polyester plain weave fabric construction wherein said fabric has a basis weight of between 150 to 300 g/m2 with tongue tear strength equal to or better than nylon fabrics of the same construction and weight. The present invention relates to both coated and uncoated polyester filament woven fabric. The uncoated fabric is useful for industrial purposes wherein the fabric has a warp tongue tear resistance of at least 0.75 N/g/m2, when the fabric basis weight is between 150 to 300 g/m2 The preferred uncoated polyester filament yarn has a linear density of between about 200 to about 800 dtex, a tenacity of at least 65 cN/tex, a tensile index of at least 350. The fabrics can be coated with chloroprene, neoprene, polyurethane, silicone or other organic coatings to reduce air permeability. The fabric of the present invention may also be constructed with the warp and/or filling yarn having an aspect ratio between 1.2 and 6.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an adjustable air shield (18) for skewed godet rolls (12, 14). The air shield (18) can be any blocking type plate with or without perforations. Furthermore, these air shields (18) may be placed in close proximity to the pair of skewed, relax rolls (12, 14) in the relax zone of a fiber producing process. The plates (18) are positioned on the inside of the threadline (16) so that the airflow is substantially reduced around the threadline (16) on the skewed rolls. The preferred embodiment of the present invention is one or more skewed godet rolls (12, 14) in the relax area of the fiber production process with air shields (18) positioned on the inside of the fiber string up (threadline) (16) between the pair of skewed rolls (12, 14), such that the gap between any roll (12, 14) and any air shield (18) is uniform and constant.
