Abstract:
A process for making a solution of perfluorosulfonated ion exchange polymer is disclosed. The process involves heating a slurry containing a perfluorosulfonated ion exchange polymer resin, an organic ether compound and water in a mechanically agitated pressurized vessel to an elevated temperature, so as to totally dissolve the resin in the solution. The perfluorosulfonated ion exchange polymer solution is recovered, and the water and the organic ether compound are removed from the solution. A perfluorosulfonated ion exchange polymer resin remains, which can be coated onto a fabric, or converted into a film which can be laminated onto a fabric. The resulting fabric forms the basis for a chemical and/or biological agent barrier for use in certain types of apparel.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an improved process and apparatus for alkanolysis of polytetramethylene ether diacetate to polytetraalkylene ether glycol in the presence of a C1 to C4 alkanol and an alkali or alkaline earth metal catalyst wherein the catalyst component of the product mixture comprising polytetraalkylene ether glycol, alkanol and catalyst, essentially free of the alkanol acetate by-product, e.g., methyl acetate is removed by contacting the mixture in the absence of added water with certain ion exchange resin at specified contact conditions. The invention further provides a highly efficient method for removing the catalyst component of a mixture comprising polytetraalkylene ether glycol, alkanol and alkali or alkaline earth metal catalyst by contacting the mixture in the absence of added water with certain ion exchange resin at specified contact conditions,
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a new thermoplastic copolyether ester elastomer composition comprising a soft segment and a hard segment. The soft segment of the copolyether ester elastomer composition is derived from a random poly(oxyethylene-co-oxytetramethylene ether) glycol and the hard segment is composed of short chain polyester. The present invention also relates to a method for manufacturing the new copolyether ester elastomer composition, and products comprising same.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an improved process for converting a diester of polyether polyol, e.g., PTMEA, to the corresponding dihydroxy product, e.g., polytetramethylene ether glycol (PTMEG) continuously in a reaction zone, such as, for example, a reactive distillation system, for achieving virtually complete conversion of PTMEA to PTMEG, and recovery of PTMEG free of unreacted or unconverted PTMEA and alkanol ester by-product.
Abstract:
A method for preventing pressure build-up across a catalyst separation in a polyether polyol reactor comprising the steps of feeding reactants that comprise a monomer or co-monomers to be polymerized to form the polyether polyol into a continuous feed reactor, flowing the product stream through a catalyst separation system within the reactor, wherein the catalyst separation system is comprised of a plurality of filters, wherein each filter comprises an outer surface and an inner surface defined by a plurality of spaced-apart elements, and wherein the distance between the spaced-apart elements is smaller than the minor dimension of the suspended catalyst and recovering the filtered polyether polyol product and catalyst fines from the reactor outlet.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an improved, fully-integrated continuous process of enhanced process operability for manufacturing copolyether glycols having enhanced physical properties by polymerization of a reaction mixture comprising tetrahydrofuran and at least one alkylene oxide in the presence of an acid catalyst and at least one compound containing reactive hydrogen atoms. The copolyether glycols manufactured by the present process have enhanced physical properties of increased alkylene oxide incorporation, average molecular weight and polydispersity, as well as reduced crystallinity, color, oligomeric cyclic ether content, and linear oligomer having an average molecular weight of up to about 400 dalton content.
