Abstract:
A liquid crystal alignment agent capable of not only exhibiting excellent alignment characteristics but also forming a liquid crystal alignment layer film with which the time from cancellation of voltage application to afterimage erasure in a liquid crystal display is short; a polymer therefor; and a diamine compound as a monomer therefor. For example, there are provided liquid crystal alignment agents comprising a diamine compound having an alicyclic group, such as methyl lithocholate (3,5-diaminobenzoate), a polyamic acid being a product of reaction between the same and a tetracarboxylic anhydride and an imidized polymer therefrom, and a polymer thereof. Also, a liquid crystal display comprising the liquid crystal alignment layer film is provided.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal aligning agent capable of forming such a liquid crystal alignment film as to exhibit good alignment characteristics and to be shortened in a time in which an after-image is removed after release of an applied voltage in a liquid crystal display element, to provide a polymer used for forming the agent, and to provide a diamine compound used as a monomer for forming the polymer. SOLUTION: This diamine compound which contains an alicyclic radical, for example, methyl lithocholate (3,5-diaminobenzoate), a polyamic acid which is a reaction product of the diamine compound and a tetracarboxylic acid anhydride, an imidized polymer which is formed out of the polyamic acid, the liquid crystal aligning agent which contains the polymer, and the liquid crystal display element which has the liquid crystal alignment film formed out of the agent are provided, respectively. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal aligning agent for coating a resin substrate, by which a liquid crystal alignment layer superior in liquid crystal alignment performance, pre-tilt angle stability, reliability, rubbing resistance even in the baking treatment at low temperatures can be obtained, and to provide a liquid crystal display element provided with the liquid crystal aligning layer obtained therefrom. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal alignment agent contains an amic acid recurring unit and an imide recurring unit.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical alignment type liquid crystal aligning agent which has excellent printing properties and with which such a liquid crystal alignment layer can be obtained, that has excellent vertical alignment properties, is short in afterimage erasure time and is suitable for a liquid crystal display element. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal aligning agent contains a polyamic acid polymer (A) synthesized by using a tetra carboxylic acid and a diamine and having a recurring unit having a specified structure and a polyamic acid polymer (B) having an another recurring unit, or a block copolymer (C) of the polyamic acid polymers (A) and (B).
