Abstract: An apparatus positions a rotary drum (44) having an axis of rotation in an image scanner (10) having a frame to position an image source (52, 52) mounted on the rotary drum (44). A headstock (20) and a tailstock (30) are disposed and arranged to receive and support the rotary drum (44). A drum drive (40, 46) device rotates the drum about the axis and a headstock drive device (62, 66, 68, 54, 70) linearly moves the headstock (20) along the axis in first and second opposite directions. A stop block (292) is supported by the frame (16) and impedes a linear movement of the tailstock (30) in the second direction at a selected stop position. A connector (80) connects the headstock (20) to the tailstock (30) to cause the tailstock (30) to move linearly along the axis in response to the movement of the headstock (20).
