Abstract: A display device includes a display panel and a processor. The panel has pixels including first to fourth sub-pixels. The processor determines candidates for an expansion coefficient of pixels when displaying an image of one frame, determines the coefficient for the one frame, based on each candidate, calculates the output values of a pixel, based on the coefficient and the input values of the pixel, and outputs the output values to the panel. The processor calculates a candidate for the coefficient in the second frame of a pixel, when the input values of this pixel are not substantially the same between first and second frames, and calculates no candidate for the coefficient when the input values of the pixel are substantially the same between the first and second frames.

Abstract: According to an aspect, a display device includes: a display panel including a display area provided with a plurality of pixels; and a light source configured to emit light to the display panel. Writing periods and lighting periods are alternately provided in one frame period for at least one color. Each writing period is a period in which part of a pixel signal is written to a corresponding one of the pixels. Each lighting period is a period in which light is emitted to the pixel after a corresponding one of the writing periods. A light amount in at least one of the lighting periods is larger than a light amount in other lighting periods.

Abstract: A display device includes: a display panel to display a frame image by arranging line images; and a light source. One frame period includes sub-frame periods each including a writing period and a display period. The line images are written in units of a predetermined number of lines during the writing period. The line images that are written at a time in units of the predetermined number of lines are the same image. In two continuous sub-frame periods in the one frame period, when a line image to be written during the writing period in a preceding sub-frame period differs from a line image to be written during the writing period in a subsequent sub-frame period, a start position of the writing period in the preceding sub-frame period and a start position of the writing period in the subsequent sub-frame period are shifted by one line from each other.

Abstract: A display device includes: a display panel including pixel rows to which line images are written; and a red, a green, and a blue light source. A display period of a frame image includes six subframe periods, each including a writing period and a lighting period. The line image of a color component corresponding to a combination of light emitted during the lighting period of a preceding period of two consecutive subframe periods, and light emitted during the lighting period of a subsequent period is written during the writing period of the preceding period. The subframe periods includes a first and a second subframe period provided alternately and consecutively, the first subframe period includes the writing period during which the line image is written to a first pixel row, and the second subframe period includes the writing period during which the line image is written to a second pixel row.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a light source device includes a plurality of light emitting elements including at least first and second light emitting elements, lightguide, first circuit, second circuit, and controller. The lightguide includes a first surface on which light from light emitting elements is incident and a second surface through which the light exits. The first circuit connects light emitting elements in series. The second circuit can bypass each of light emitting elements. The controller turns on light emitting elements using the first circuit if light emitting elements function normally, and if one of light emitting elements functions abnormally, the controller turns on the light emitting element functioning normally using the second circuit.
