Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for production of a cycloolefin polymer hydride by hydrogenation of a polymer or a copolymer of a cycloolefin compound having a plurality of olefinic unsaturated bonds in the molecule by a simple process inhibiting formation of a gel component and substantially free from gel. SOLUTION: The process for production of the ring-opened cycloolefin polymer hydride comprises ring-opening polymerization of a monomer containing a specific cyclic olefin compound having a plurality of unsaturated bonds in the molecule, and starting the hydrogenation reaction of the resultant ring-opening polymer solution by contact with hydrogen at 40°C to less than 120°C in the presence of a ruthenium compound or a specific metal hydride complex. The cycloolefin polymer hydride requires no removal of gel content by an intensive filtration due to very little content of the gel and may be used for the formation of a suitable desired form.
