Aerial machines with aerostats; aerostats.- An aeroplane is fitted with gas-bags of bellowslike shape, which are extensible and contractible upon vertical guides under inflation and de flation for balancing the machine. Each bag G is of fabric enclosed in a cover formed of hinged metal plates G . The outer hinges G carry rings H adapted to slide on vertical guide rods F. The bags G are connected by pipes I to gas tanks L fitted with a pump J adapted to draw gas from the tanks into the bags or vice versa. Aerial machines without aerostats; parachutes.-The bags G may contain air instead of a light gas. In the event of a fall, the bags are inflated to check the descent.
