Abstract: PURPOSE:To prolong the pot life of compound molding sand considerably by using specific hydroperoxide as an oxidizing agent in the stage of compound an acid setting resin and an oxidizing agent with molding sand, molding the mixture to a mold, and hardening the same with gaseous SO2. CONSTITUTION:In molding a casting mold, 1 or >=2 kinds of urea-formaldehyde resins, phenol-formaldehyde resins and furan resins are added as acid setting resins to molding sand at 0.4-3.0wt% basing on the weight of the molding sand. Also, 1 or >=2 kinds of oxidizing agents such as methane hydroperoxide, cymene hydroperoxide, diisopropylbenzene hydroperoxide, etc. expressed by the formulas [I]and[II]are added to the molding sand at 0.01-0.3% in terms of amt. of active oxygen. These are kneaded, and the mixture is packed in prescribed molds, after which gaseous SO2 is passed therethrough to harden the sand mold, whereby the mold is produced. The pot life of the compounded sand of this case is extended considerably and the compounded sand is used for the mold in high yields.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a binder which improves remarkably the strength of a casting mold by bringing the resulting product of reaction of furfuryl alcohol and isocyanate compd. into co-condensation with furfuryl alcohol, urea and phenol by formaldehyde. CONSTITUTION:Aliphat. isocyanate, arom. polyisocyanate, etc. are used as an isocyanate compd. and are used at about 0.05-1.00 molar ratio with furfuryl alcohol to form the resulting product of reaction. The resulting product and compd. of >=1 kind selected from furfuryl alcohol, urea and phenol are brought into co-condensation by formaldehyde to form a binder. The binder is used at about 0.4-3.0pts.wt. by 100pts.wt. refractory aggregate.
