Abstract: Radiation- curable synthetic resin coating compsn., with excellent adhesion to non-absorbent polar surfaces, consists of a (meth)acrylo-urethane resin (I) and a (meth)acrylate (II) with OH gps., which can copolymerise with the unsatd. terminal gps. of (I). (I) is prepd. by reacting (A) polyoxyalkylene-bisphenol A deriv(s). (IIIA) of the formula H(OR)m-O- -CMe2- -O (RO) nH (in which R is 2-4 (2-3) C alkylene. is a p-phenylene gp. with 0-2 halogen or Me substits. m and n are >=1 and m + n = 2-8, pref. 2-6) or OH-terminated cpds. (IIIB), obtd. by condensing (IIIA) with poly- (dr-)-carboxylic acids (IV) or anhydrides, (B) polyisocyanates (V) and (C)(II). The compsn. is specified for coating inks, glass, metals and polar surfaces of synthetic resins, (e.g. PVC, polystyrene, epoxy resins, polyesters, polyacrylonitrile, oxidised polyethylene, oxidised polypropylene, urea, melamine, phenolic, ketone, other HCHO, urethane and acrylic resins, polyvinyl esters, cellulose acetate and other modified cellulose resins, PVA, polyvinyl acetate resins, polyvinyl ethers and polyamide resins). It can be cured by UV or ionising radiation.
