    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ultraviolet absorber excellent in ultraviolet absorption properties, adhesion to a surface, etc. by selecting a flaky zinc oxide powder having specified average particle size, average particle thickness, and average aspect ratio and excellent ultraviolet-screening properties. SOLUTION: This ultraviolet absorber comprises a flaky zinc oxide powder having an average particle size of 0.1-1μm, an average particle thickness of 0.01-0.2μm, and an average aspect ratio of 3 or higher, can be suitably used for medicines, cosmetics, ceramic materials, etc., and is produced e.g. by mixing and reacting a zinc-ion-contg. acidic water soln. with an aq. alkali soln. in the presence of an acidic group (e. g. nitrate group) in an amt. higher than equimolar to zinc ion at pref. 40 deg.C or lower for a short time and causing a zinc oxide powder to precipitate from the resultant mother liquor having a pH of 11 or higher. The absorber may be produced by mixing an aq. soln. contg. a zinc salt in an amt. of 15wt.% or lower (in terms of zinc oxide) with a precipitating medium and causing zinc oxide to precipitate from the resultant mother liquor having a pH of 11 or higher.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce such a planer pigment of skin color which gives excellent touch and transparency by effecting the reaction of an aq. solution containing cobalt salt, zinc salt and iron salt with an alkali solution, and then making coprecipitation of hydroxide in a specified pH range. CONSTITUTION:The pigment of this purpose is obtained by effecting the reaction of an aq. solution containing cobalt ion, zinc ion and iron ion by 0.005-5M of the total amt. with an alkali solution, and then applying coprecipitation of hydroxide in the pH7-13 range. The pigment is a planer pigment showing skin color and consisting of Co-Zn coprecipitate having 1-50 average diameter of the plane, 0.01-5mu average thickness, and 5-100 aspect ratio. The Co-Zn coprecipitate, which is the pale orange planer pigment above discribed, has preferably the proportion of Co/Zn/Fe=(0.5-1.5)/(0.5-1.5)/(0-0.5) by the molar ratio. If the proportion is out of this range, skin color is not obtained nor complete planer structure is formed which degrades the use touch.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide the subject powder having transparency and high light- scattering property and, accordingly, useful as an additive for cosmetics, etc., effective for masking the wrinkles while preventing the white appearance. CONSTITUTION: This spherical inorganic powder has a refractive index of 1.5-2.0, a volume-average particle diameter of 0.1-4μm and a transmitted light scattering ratio of >=70% and a total transmittance of >=80%. The transmitted light scattering ratio and the total transmittance are defined by the formulas, Td/(Tp+ Td)}×100 and (Tp+Td), respectively, wherein Tp is a parallel light transmittance and Td is a scattered light transmittance measured by a haze meter on a thin film produced by uniformly dispersing a specimen in a dispersion medium having a refractive index of 1.4-1.5 at a concentration of 20wt.% and forming a thin film having a thickness of 15μm.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain ZnO powder excellent in particle orienting properties, ultraviolet rays protecting properties, electric conductivity, etc., at a low cost, by mixing and reacting an acidic aqueous solution containing Zn ions with an alkaline aqueous solution in the presence of acid radicals. CONSTITUTION:Acid radicals (e.g., Na2SO4) in an amount of 1.05-2 equiv. based on Zn ions are added to an acidic aqueous solution containing a salt of Zn. An aqueous solution of an alkali (e.g., NaOH) is added, mixed and reacted with the resultant aqueous solution at pH>=11 and =11 containing a salt of Zn in an amount of =30 Reynolds number to form a white slurry containing precipitates. The obtained slurry is then heated to 60-100 deg.C and kept for >=10min to afford flaky ZnO powder having 0.1-1mum average particle diameter, 0.01-0.2mum average particle thickness and >=3 average flakiness ratio.
