Abstract:
The invention provides a method for filling a container with one of a plurality of particles and a liquid. The method includes the step of filling a radially flexible container through a large diameter with one of a plurality of particles and a liquid to a fill level. The method also includes the step of reducing the large diameter of the radially flexible container to a smaller fill diameter in vertical relationship to the fill level as the fill level rises during filling of the flexible container. The method also includes the step of placing a paperboard structure on opposing sides of the radially flexible container to support the radially flexible container during filling.
Abstract:
A seal assembly is disposed in a seal of a flexible bag. The seal assembly includes a first tab, a second tab, a middle layer of peelable adhesive sandwiched between the first tab and. the second tab, a first outside layer of adhesive that adheres to the first side of the bag, and a second outside layer of adhesive that is compatible with the second side of the bag such that second outside layer is heat sealed to the liner. The first tab and the second tab are easily grasped and may be pulled in opposite directions to break the middle layer of peelable adhesive. The middle layer is heat resistant such that the first tab and the second tab do not melt together during the formation of the seal.
Abstract:
A method for forming a flexible container (10a) containing a flowable material (12a) is provided, including the steps of suspending the flexible container (10a), transferring the weight of the flexible container (10a) from being suspended to being supported by a support surface (36), and applying a hoop force to the flexible container (10a) to substantially maintain a configuration of the flexible container (10a). The flexible container (10a) can be a bag-type container for containing flowable material (12a) such as chemicals, food products, agricultural products, and plastic pellets. As the container (10a) is lowered from the suspended position to a bottom-supported position, the hoop force is applied around the perimeter as the perimeter changes during transfer of the flexible container (10a) from being suspended to being bottom-supported. The hoop force can be applied by stretch wrap (46). Alternatively, the first flexible container can be lowered into a second flexible container (10b). The second flexible container (10b) can be formed from a heat shrinkable material and the second flexible container can be shrunk at the perimeter as the perimeter changes. Alternatively, the second flexible container can be a stretchable bag. A stretched portion of the stretchable bag can be released substantially at the perimeter to generate the hoop force.
Abstract:
The invention provides a diameter reducing system for reducing the diameter of a flexible container (12) as the container is filled. The system includes a shrinking device to shrink the container at the fill level as the container is filled with a plurality of particles. The shrinking device can include a heater to direct heat at the fill level. The container can be a bag formed from heat shrinkable material. Shrinking of the container at the fill level as the container fills promotes supporting engagement between particles.
Abstract:
Apparatus including a conveying member defining a loop (98). The conveying member can be a belt, a chain, or plurality of hinged plates. The invention also includes first and second supporting members (92, 94) individually disposed at opposite sides of the loop and spaced a first distance apart from one another. The first and second supporting members support rotating movement of the conveying member. A moving device (102) is operable to translate the first and second supporting members concurrently along a path having at least one bend (106). The lengths of the portions of the conveying member disposed on opposite sides of the bend can be adjusted by the moving device. A bendable frame assembly (108), connected to the moving device, extends between and is attached to the first and second supporting members.
Abstract:
The packaging system forms a transportable container for bulk goods having stretch wrap that is spirally wrapped about a bottom support and bulk goods to define the transportable container. The stretch wrap contacts at least a portion of the bulk goods to squeeze and lock together the bulk goods. During filling, the bottom support of the transportable container lowers as the transportable container is formed to accommodate additional bulk goods. The stretch wrap is prestretched from a non-stretched state to a stretched state prior to disposing the wrap about a slip frame former in the stretched state. The wrap returns to its non-stretched state as it is disengaged from the slip frame former to squeeze and lock together the bulk goods disposed therein. The packaging system results in a transportable container that is optimally packed and shaped for the efficient filling of a truck for shipping.
Abstract:
A method for packaging a plurality of particles in a flexible container begins by moving the particles through an opening of the flexible container to at least partially fill the flexible container. An expandable material is then disposed, in an unexpanded state, to at least a portion of the flexible container. Next, at least a portion of the expandable material is activated after the moving step has begun to expand the expandable material and increase the rigidity of the expandable material to stabilize the flexible container. A method is also included for disposing the expandable material to at least a portion of flexible film wrapped around a stack of cartons.
Abstract:
An article of commerce comprising a bag containing a quantity of particulates. The bag includes a sidewall encircling a longitudinal axis and extending along the axis between a bottom closed end and a top closed end. The opposite sides of the sidewall are brought together to form the bottom closed and the top closed end. Both of the bottom and top closed ends extend acutely with respect to the axis such that the bag is parallelogram-shaped in a plane containing the axis and the bottom closed end and the top closed end.
Abstract:
A packaging system (20) for forming and filling a transportable container (22) of plurality of bulk goods includes a frame (26) having a bottom support (48) and an upper support (32). An upper turntable (34) is rotatably supported within the upper support (32) and a lower turntable (50) is rotatably supported on the bottom support (48). A drive system (58) includes at least one pulley system (62, 64, 66) interconnected to the upper and lower turntables (34, 50) for simultaneously driving and synchronizing rotation of the upper and lower turntables (34, 50) with the at least one pulley system (62, 64, 66). A slip frame former (42) extends downwardly from the upper turntable (34) and a roll of stretch wrap (92) is disposed in overlapping relationship with the slip frame former (42) and the bottom support (48) during simultaneous and synchronized rotation of the turntables (34, 50) with the at least one pulley system (62, 64, 66).
Abstract:
The invention provides a stackable bulk transport container. The stackable bulk transport container includes a first bulk container that includes a flexible container filled with particulate material and wrapped in stretch wrap. The flexible container of the first bulk container is wrapped such that the stretch wrap is applied substantially at the fill level as the fill level rises. The stackable bulk transport container also includes a planar member positioned on the first bulk container. The planar member defines a substantially planar surface that engages the first bulk container. The stackable bulk transport container also includes a second bulk container positioned on the planar member. When the second bulk container is positioned on the planar member, the planar member flattens and expands the top portion of the first bulk container to enhance the stability of the stackable bulk transport container.
