    Abstract: The invention provides an oxidation process for converting 4nitroso-m-cresol to the corresponding 4-nitro-m-cresol by reacting the nitroso compound with an oxidizing agent in the presence of a catalyst at reflux temperatures in a reaction solvent solution including lower aliphatic and alicyclic ketones. The mixture thereafter is cooled and the 4-nitro-m-cresol is recovered from the solvent solution.
