    Abstract: The braking system has two metal friction rollers (8,10) mounted in a housing with a pivot action to bring either one or none of the rollers into contact with the tyre (54). The rollers (8,10) are coupled together by meshing gears (12, 14) to drive the rollers in opposite directions. Through friction contact with the tyre one roller (say 10) twists the elastomer strip (44) to store energy while the other roller enables the energy to be returned to the wheel. The elastomer strip is twisted by a gearing linked to the rollers. A friction wedge (6) blocks the roller action when they are lifted off the tyre and allows the stored energy to be retained. The pivot action of the roller mounting is controlled by a Bowden cable or by a mechanical sensor (86) on the bicycle chain. ADVANTAGE - Compact braking system, improved handling of bicycle.

    Abstract: Display device (1) to display locking status of key-actuated lock is fixed to body of key (4). Device contains vertical turning sensor (9), horizontal turn sensor (15), activating device, torque sensors (26), a current source and activating unit (20).Turning sensors (9,15) are realised by `fall' channels (12) where switching contacts (S1, S3) are closed by a conducting ball in the channel. Horizontal turn sensors have a bend or nick in which the conducting ball lodges between excursions. Torque sensors are piezoelectric.
