Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure describe methods of preparing hollow silica nanoparticles comprising one or more of the following steps: contacting a polymer and a first solvent to obtain a first solution in which the polymer is dissolved; contacting the first solution and a second solvent to obtain a second solution in which a polymer template is formed by precipitation; contacting a silica precursor and the second solution to obtain a shell-core structure in which a silica shell is formed around the polymer template; contacting the shell-core structure with a third solvent to remove the polymer template from the shell-core structure; and recovering one or more of hollow silica nanoparticles, the polymer, and the polymer template.
