Abstract: 22,179. Kitsee, I. Oct. 20. Telegraphs.-In a cable telegraph system, an automatic or other transmitter 5 sends to line alternate positive and negative impulses of equal duration, which influence a polarized siphon recorder 23 normally tracing a continuous line, and cause it to interrupt this line so as to produce code characters. A code is used in which a 'dot' occurring alone or at the end of a word is represented by a line longer than the normal 'dash,' and a 'dash' occurring alone or at the end of a word by a still longer line. The time-interval between successive holes in the transmitter tape determines the character produced upon the recording tape. The siphon 28 normally rests over a hole 31 in the grooved shield 30, so that the trace is interrupted when the coil is deflected momentarily in either direction. The recorder may be replaced by an ordinary relay and Morse sounder.

Abstract: 27,049. Kitsee, I. June 21, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901.] Telegraphs.-In a transmitting-device for cable telegraphy, in which two batteries 2, 3 are arranged in opposition to each other in such a way that the larger battery can be short-circuited by the transmitting-key 7, an inductive resistance 5 is arranged in the shunt circuit and may itself be bridged by the condenser 4. When the key 7 is depressed, a current impulse is sent to line by the battery 3 ; when the key is released, the line impulse is from the battery 2.

Abstract: 12,424. Kitsee, I. June 15. Drawings to Specification. Telegraphs.-In electric telegraphy through lines of high capacity, it is advantageous to signal by current impulses of the same duration and intensity but of alternately opposite signs, the only remaining variable being the time element between successive impulses. In order to send a "dot" of the Morse code, one impulse is sent of opposite sign to that which may have preceded it and the impulse is followed by the usual time interval. In order to send the "dash" of the Morse code, two impulses are sent following one another at a very short interval, the impulses being of opposite sign, and the first one of sign opposite to that impulse which may have preceded it.
