Abstract: 27,639. Kopp, N. Dec. 31. Printing from engraved plates; printing fabrics.-Relates to machines especially adapted for printing thin paper transfers for printing on glass, pottery, &c. The strip of paper or fabric 9 passes from a roll on to an endless band 4 stretched on rollers 2, 3 and having a soft coating of felt or rubber &c. The strip passes under a feed-roller 11, damping-apparatus 23, feed-rollers 12 which engage only the edges of the strip, and absorbent roller 25 to the printing-roller 10. The damping-apparatus 23 damps the central part of the strip, leaving the edges dry. The cylinder 10 is mounted on screwed discs or collars on the ends of hollow shafts, one at each side of the machine, and it is heated by steam introduced through the hollow shafts. The design is engraved on a plate or shell removably fixed on the cylinder. The colouring- matter is applied to the cylinder 10 through an opening in the reservoir 21 in contact with the cylinder. The reservoir 21 is surrounded by a jacket 22 into which steam is introduced for heating the colouring-matter. A flexible strip above the orifice spreads the colouring-matter on the cylinder, pressing it into the engraved lines, and returns the surplus into the reservoir. The reservoir is pivoted on the shaft 27 so that it may be turned into and out of position by a lever locking device. On the reservoir is a roller which tightens the driving-belt when the reservoir is in its operative position. A rod connecting the reservoir 21 and moistening-device 23 throws the latter, which is also pivoted, into and out of operative position. On the shaft 27, which is in rotation, are stirring-blades 28 for agitating the colouring-matter. A sliding door 33 is provided for closing the reservoir opening. A presser 34 presses the colour into the engraved parts of the plate, and cleans it from surplus colour. A further cleaning-arrangement, such as a knife or cloth &c. cleaner, is provided. The printed paper is fed on to the table 14 by feed-rollers 13 which grip its edges. 26 is an absorbent roller for removing surplus moisture from the band 5.
