    Abstract: A vessel into which a solid fuel and an oxidant are introduced to be gasified therein and from which gasified fuel is discharged, has a bottom portion including a conical chamber communicating with a tubular port. A body of liquid medium is accommodated in the conical chamber and slag produced during the gasification is being entrapped therein. A tubular member has two tubular portions, one of which is accommodated in the tubular port and the other one of which is inclined with respect to the first-mentioned portion, extends into the chamber and is provided with openings connecting the interior of the tubular member with the chamber. The tubular member is driven to rotate about the axis of the port so that the second-mentioned portion cooperates with the interior surface of the chamber to comminute the slag lumps contained in the chamber. A grinding insert is rigidly attached to the port and projects into the chamber so as to enhance the comminuting process. A wear insert is removably attached to the interior wall of the chamber, and the edges of the openings are configurated as crushing portions, so that the comminuting process is further enhanced.

    Abstract: A housing has an interior provided with two axially spaced and aligned openings, and is connectable in sealing relationship with a wall of the pressure vessel, so that one of the openings is in registry with a viewing port provided in this wall. A spherical, cylindrical or conical body having a bore is sealingly accommodated in the interior of the housing and can be turned to and from a position in which its bore registers with the openings and, hence, with the port. Sight glasses, lenses or the like are sealingly mounted in the bore and permit viewing of the interior of the pressure vessel when the body is in the position in which the bore registers with the openings.

    Abstract: A plant for the fluidized bed gasification of solid fuels using gases contg. oxygen at pressures of 10-40 atm consists of the gas producer proper, which is arranged inside a pressure vessel below an expansion chamber in which the entrained ash particles are sepd. A water bath in the bottom of the vessel receives the slag from the producer. Water tubes on the inside walls of the vessel are used to recover the sensible heat from the gas produced. The pressure vessel is a simple cylindrical tank with easily calculated stresses. The gas producer proper is not a pressure vessel and can be designed in the best functional shape.
