Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily prepare various types of documents which are produced in a software development process and to maintain these documents with consistency by using a user interface, a documentation manager, an output generator and an information storage manager to define the hierarchical structure of each document to express and manage the relationship between hierarchies. SOLUTION: A user interface 1 takes charge of input and retrieval jobs, a documentation manager 2 manages the contents of documents and analyzes the meta-information to generate the documents. An output generator 3 takes charge of output jobs, and an information storage manager 4 takes charge of a connection job to the storage of information. The manager 2 also serves as a kernel part of a software document production device. Then a life cycle manager 21 sets the life cycle steps and defines the type of each produced document, and a user manager 24 manages the grades of readers, the grant of the reference right, etc. A relationship manager 22 manages a reference link by setting the relationship of document contents in cooperation with both managers 21 and 24.
