Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for embedding and extracting digital watermarks based on wavelets which is robust to external attacks while being capable of minimizing a degradation in picture quality caused by embedding of the watermarks. SOLUTION: The embedded watermarks embedded in DC component domains of wavelet-transformed domains can be robust to external attacks such as compression in the case of embedding and extracting watermarks for copyright protection. The high-frequency dependency of pixels in a DC component domain determined as a target domain, in which watermarks are to be embedded, is calculated, in order to embed the watermarks in the target domain in the order of pixels having a higher high-frequency dependency. Accordingly, there is an advantage in that it is possible to minimize a degradation in picture quality caused by the embedding of watermarks in the DC component domain. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO

The present invention relates to a method for expressing sensory effects and an apparatus therefor, and a computer-readable recording medium whereon computer-readable sensory effect metadata are recorded. The method of the present invention for generating sensory media comprises a step wherein sensory effect information on sensory effects that are applied to a medium is received as input, and a step wherein sensory effect metadata are generated, including sensory effect information; the sensory effect metadata include sensory effect description information that describes sensory effects, and the sensory effect description information includes media location information that indicates the location within the media where sensory effects are applied. According to the present invention, sensory effects are implemented when media are provided. so that the playback effects of the media can be maximized.

The present invention relates to a method and a device for realising sensory effects. The method for producing sensory media of the present invention comprises the steps of: producing sensory-effect metadata for a sensory effect employed in the media; and transmitting the sensory-effect metadata to a sensory-effect realisation device. Further, the sensory-effect metadata comprises sensory-effect realisation data for realising a sensory effect and sensory-effect declaration data defining any type of sensory-effect other than the core type(s) of effect. The present invention has the advantageous effect that it can maximise the effect of playing back media by also implementing sensory effects when providing a media experience.

The present invention deals with a sensory effect expression method and apparatus therefor, and a computer-readable recording medium whereon sensory device command metadata are recorded. The sensory effect expression method of the present invention comprises a step wherein sensory effect metadata including sensory effect information are received as input, a step wherein the sensory effect metadata are analyzed to acquire said sensory effect information, and a step wherein sensory device command metadata are generated corresponding to the sensory effect information; the sensory device command metadata include sensory device command technology information for commanding the sensory device. According to the present invention, sensory effects are also implemented when media are provided so that the playback effects of media can be maximized.

The present invention relates to a sensory effect representation method and apparatus, and a computer-readable recording medium whereon sensory device performance data are recorded. The method of the present invention for providing sensory device performance information comprises: a step of obtaining performance information on a sensory device; and a step of generating sensory device capabilities metadata containing the performance information, wherein the sensory device capabilities metadata include device capabilities information that describes performance information. According to the present invention, sensory effects are also relized when media are provided so that the playback effects of the media can be maximized.

The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for generating an avatar. The method for generating an avatar according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises the following steps: taking, as an input, information on the outer appearance of an object for which an avatar is to be created; generating metadata for the type of the outer appearance of the avatar using the information on the outer appearance; and generating an avatar using the metadata for the type of the outer appearance of the avatar, wherein said metadata for the type of the outer appearance of the avatar include skin information, hair information, fingernail and toenail information, and/or teeth information. According to the present invention, avatars can be generated using existing data for outer appearances and additional detailed data, thus generating avatars which are closer to reality and which can be easily differentiated from other avatars.

The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for generating an avatar. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the method for generating the avatar includes the steps of: recognizing an object to be formed as an avatar; generating distinguishing feature information by recognizing a distinguishing feature of the object; generating distinguishing feature metadata including the distinguishing feature information; and generating the avatar using the distinguishing feature metadata. The present invention distinguishes the difference between similar avatars by generating the avatar using an intrinsic feature of each object, which is the distinguishing feature when generating the avatars for the similar objects such as twins.
