    Abstract: PURPOSE: A decoding device of CAVLC(Context Adaptive Variable Length Coding) and a table search method for decoding are provided to improve whole decoding speed by reducing a repeated memory access generated in a table search stage to a second memory access. CONSTITUTION: A controller(110) reconstructs a CAVLC table of first and second decoding information into 2 step table. A shifter(120) performs table search for decoding the first and second decoding information using the information saved in the 2 step table according to the presence of remaining bit except the number of leading zeros. A memory(140) stores the CAVLC table and the reconstructed 2 step table.
