    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a microscope stable and compact in scale and to enable integration with precise exactness in arrangement by constituting the microscope into plate micro-optical system. SOLUTION: Input irradiation light 18 is made incident on a glass substrate 20 by a grating coupler 19, moved forward successively through a phase object 11, 1st lens 15, phase plate 12, 2nd lens 16 and output plane 13 and deflected perpendicular to the glass substrate 20 by the grating coupler forming the output plane 13. Such output light is measured as light intensity distribution by a 3rd lens 17 and a camera 14. The 1st and 2nd lenses 15 and 16 and the phase plate 12 can use general lenses and a general phase plate formable on a flat substrate 21. When measuring the arbitrary phase object 11, the phase object 11 is placed at the position of input object 11 (an area to arrange the phase object 11). Thus, it can be measured by the camera 14 as the light intensity distribution of lightness/darkness.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To design a structure having coupling efficiency of an optical bistable characteristic by constituting with a linear optical waveguide having a refractive index larger than the refractive index of a nonlinear optical waveguide and containing an optical waveguide grating patterned on the linear optical waveguide when power of incident light is smaller than a prescribed critical value. SOLUTION: When the incident light having the power smaller than the critical power is made incident on the area of the linear optical waveguide 13 of a nonlinear optical waveguide grating structure, since the linear refractive index of the nonlinear optical waveguide 12 is smaller than the refractive index of the linear optical waveguide 13, the incident light is restricted in the inside of the linear optical waveguide 13. Waveguided light restricted in the inside of the linear optical waveguide 13 is diffracted by a grating structure 14 to be discharged from a substrate side to the outside. On the other hand, when the power of the incident light is larger than the critical power, the refractive index of the nonlinear optical waveguide 12 becomes larger than the refractive index of the linear optical waveguide 13 by the nonlinearity of the nonlinear optical waveguide 12. Thus, the dower of the incident light is transmitted to the area of the nonlinear optical waveguide 12, and advances along a path of a nonlinear thin film.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To greatly increase the influence of a coupling rate on light guide power and further to make coupling rate characteristics optically bistable by providing a light guide grating which is patterned on a 1st linear light guide formed on a nonlinear light guide and a 2nd linear light guide formed at a specific interval with the 1st light guide grating. SOLUTION: The whole coupler consists of three light guide layers. As the bottom part, a nonlinear light guide 11 is formed of a nonlinear thin film with tertiary linearity. The refractive index n1 of the nonlienar light guide 11 is represented as n1 =n0 +a|E| (a: nonlinear coefficient) and varies as the power of traveling light varies. On the bottom part, a 1st linear light guide 12 is formed which has a larger refractive index n2 than the refractive index n1 of a nonlinear light guide 11 by coupling with the nonlinear light guide 11 and on it, a grating 13 is formed. Further, a 2nd light guide 14 is formed as the top part at the constant interval S with the light guide grating 13.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a non-linear grating coupler capable of actively selecting the position of discharged light diffracted to the outside only changing the power of incident light. SOLUTION: The coupler has tapered non-linear thin films 2, 12 formed on respective substrates 1, 11 and having tertiary non-linearity, linear optical waveguides 3, 13 formed on the upper part of the thin films 2, 12 and having refractive index larger than the linear refractive index of the thin films 2, 12 and grating structure components 4 formed on the upper part of the waveguides 3, 13. Since the critical power of the thin films 2, 12 depends upon the thickness of the thin films 2, 12, a propagation distance up to diffraction can be changed by the power of light.
