Abstract: PURPOSE: A traffic fare charging system and a method thereof are provided to automatically charge traffic fare of a smart card without visiting a charging station or charging it through a card charging terminal. CONSTITUTION: A mobile telecommunication terminal(100) is connected to a smart card(110) which a traffic amount is stored in. If the traffic amount is smaller than a standard amount, the mobile telecommunication terminal charges a charge amount to the traffic amount. A card reader(200) deduct a traffic fare from the traffic amount by communicating with the smart card. A card amount management apparatus calculate the charge amount. The mobile telecommunication terminal extracts the standard amount and the charge amount from the charge standard information. If the traffic amount stored in the card reader is smaller than the standard amount, the mobile telecommunication terminal charges the charge amount to the traffic amount.
